The Ram 1500 has been the best-selling full-size truck in its class for good reason — powerful engines, smart storage, and a ride quality that leaves competitors behind. The OEM factory service manual gives owners and independent shops the same documentation Stellantis technicians use, without the dealer markup.

What Makes the Ram 1500 Different From Other Trucks

The 2019+ Ram 1500 DT platform introduced features no other half-ton offered at launch — coil rear suspension instead of leaf springs, the eTorque 48V mild hybrid system, and a class-leading interior. These features require factory-specific knowledge to service correctly.

The eTorque system is a 48V belt-integrated starter-generator paired with a 48V lithium battery. Before any engine work on an eTorque Ram, the 48V system must be properly disconnected using the factory procedure. Skipping it means working on a live 48V system.

5.7L HEMI and eTorque System

The MDS lifter issue that affects Dodge Chargers and Jeep Grand Cherokees also applies to the Ram 1500. At high mileage, the Active Fuel Management lifters can fail. The factory manual has the complete replacement procedure, valley gasket torque sequence, and MDS oil control valve specifications. For eTorque trucks, the manual includes the 48V battery service procedure, BISG replacement, and high-voltage safety protocols.

Coil Rear Suspension

The switch to coil rear suspension dramatically improved ride quality but made service more complex. The factory manual covers shock absorber replacement, rear control arm geometry, alignment specifications, and the air leveling system calibration required after any suspension work.

3.0L EcoDiesel

The VM Motori 3.0L EcoDiesel has documented issues — injector failures, EGR cooler problems, and DEF system faults are most common. DEF system faults can put the truck in reduced-power limp mode. The factory diagnostic procedure covers every DEF fault code and the correct repair path for each one.
