Took my 2018 F-150 to the dealer for a transmission fluid change. They quoted me $340. I did it myself in about an hour using the factory service manual. Cost me $45 in fluid.

That’s kind of the whole point of this post.

The Ford F-150 factory manual covers everything — not just the basics like oil and filters, but the stuff dealers charge a fortune for. Torque specs, wiring diagrams, TSBs, the actual step-by-step they use in the shop.

Haynes and Chilton are fine for basic stuff. But if you’ve ever followed one of their guides and hit a step that just says “reassemble in reverse order” — you know the problem. The OEM manual doesn’t do that. Every step is there.

What’s actually in the F-150 factory manual:

  • Complete engine diagnostics (including SYNC system errors)
  • Transmission fluid specs by year — and yes, they changed in 2017
  • Suspension torque specs front and rear
  • Electrical diagrams for every trim level
  • 4WD system troubleshooting

Works for 2015-2020 5.0L and 3.5L EcoBoost. If you need the 2018 Ford F-150 OEM factory manual, that’s the one I used. If you’ve got a different year drop it in the comments and I’ll point you to the right one.
